Lottie Dot, a deaf Dalmatian, was rescued off the interstate during a snowstorm at 8 weeks old and started learning sign language and hand signals immediately. Something was very special about Lottie and after the necessary training, became CGC certified at 6 months old. With advanced training Lottie became a registered therapy dog in 2006. At that time she was one of two registered deaf therapy dogs. Lottie Dot is registered with Therapy Dogs Inc., is a Reading Education Assistance Dog ® and Canine Public Education Assistant.
Dora, also deaf, is from a well known Dalmatian breeder who noticed something special in her. After extensive training she became CGC certified at 8 months old. Dora is a registered therapy dog member of Therapy Dogs Inc., a Reading Education Assistance Dog ® and Canine Education Assistant. Deaf dogs have a keen sense to a person’s mood by watching body language and facial expressions. Lottie and Dora know when to lie quietly beside a hospice child and just accept petting or when to be a clown and get laughs for doing tricks. They do not let being deaf define them and love learning new things and making new friends. These spotted dogs hear with their heart not their ears. Both Lottie Dot and Dora are lovingly teamed with their owner Patricia Belt. Patricia has devoted her life to these two wonderful deaf Dalmatians and the children whose lives they enrich.
